Apache Directory Studio is an LDAP browser and directory client based on
the Eclipse platform. I saw a glimpse of it during a demo at LDAPcon and
thought I’d have a look at it. First impressions
are very good. I pointed it at a test server running OpenLDAP and it did
what I expected of it. The program can browse a directory, create new entries
(ACL permitting of course), add attribute types, etc. There is a schema
browser that looks quite powerful, and the program appears to have most of the
trimmings otherwise only available with the commercial LDAP Administrator
plus two huge bonuses: Apache Directory Studio is available under an
Apache license and it is multi-platform! Upon doing updates, the program
displays the LDIF which can be used to feed an ldapmodify command; very
useful indeed!
