Quite a large amount of equipment was offline for a few days in my SOHO(Small Office/Home Office) and, being on the road, there was very little I could do about it remotely. Upon returning, I started rebooting systems (that normally helps with Windows, but is often quite useless with real systems) without improvement: there was no network connectivity. So I started replacing cables, only to find that a cheap powerstrip had died, taking down the switch and the NSLU2 with its disks. I’d have saved some time and hassle by observing that a number of amber and green lights where not on.
