In spite of several reboots, I couldn't get wireless LAN connected on the iPhone -- something that had worked flawlessly until now. No amount of resetting the network settings helped either until the iPhone wouldn't even reboot. The only solution was to put the iPhone into DFU mode with which I could perform the Device Firmware Update. My iPhone is now back to normal, and WiFi works again. Whew.
