If you are like me, then you either use a sheet of paper to scribble down notes when developing ideas, or at best, you'll use some text editor to write them down. That is what I usually do, anyway. Why not use a mind map to represent and visualize ideas? In principle that is what we do on paper, and mind mapping software helps us electronically. The important bit is to not get too concentrated on what the map looks like; tweaking the look and feel of the map is akin to spending less time on its actual content. That is terribly counterproductive. FreeMind is a free (as in beer) program released under the GPL which aids in creating mind maps. As it is written in Java, it will run on all major platforms.
