So, you have a Windows XP/2K running and you want to try and/or use Ubuntu Linux, but you are afraid of having to repartition your hard disk? Try Wubi. It will install a full Ubuntu Linux in a container file of your Windows file system, add an entry to the boot.ini file and allow you to boot into it. No re-partitioning, uninstallable and it just works.
