Using mutt can protect you from a huge amount of rubbish that lands in your inbox. Take this example message. Being from paypal, it is probably a phishing mail, but let me open it anyway. Well, there doesn't seem to be much in there... At least there is no plain text part, so I'll use the view command to see the content of the HTML part. And what do I see, neatly formatted as text by my lynx browser? A link which refers to some site which appears to have little to do with Paypal. At least the name (coma tech) gives me an inkling of what I'll fall into if I click on the link. Wear a condom: use mutt.
