My client limits the size of email messages to four megabytes. Actually, it was I who implemented that, because SMTP is not a file transfer protocol, and because there are plenty of people who, when sending gazillions of megs in a mail attachment, cause bounces on the receiving side, due to overflowing mail quota, etc. I've implemented a simple HTTP file-uploader which will be made available to suppliers who need to send in large files (videos for marketing, CAD plans, etc.) The software is a mix of Perl and PHP hosted on an Apache web server, and authorization/authentication is granted by a mix of MySQL and LDAP. Even though that sounds like quite a mess, it isn't really... Anyways, it has a more impressive inventory than this. ;-)
