Twenty five years ago (!) four still-friends finished started an apprenticeship at Nixdorf Computer AG in Paderborn, Germany. For this silver anniversary, I intended to present each of us with a small silver ingot. Contrary to silver coins, ingots appear to be unobtainable in Germany. Neither the Deutsche Bank, nor the Commerzbank carry them any longer. A query at the Bundesbank brought neither silver nor information on where to obtain it. Telephone calls to several coin dealers in Frankfurt and Düsseldorf brought the telephone-equivalent of blank faces.
