On the short journey back to Bielefeld late this afternoon, I noticed very many foreigners at the station in Düsseldorf. I’d forgotten that the World Cup starts today: all those people are probably visitors to the games. The newspaper I glanced at on the train headlines an estimated two billion (tele-)spectators for the opening show, as well as 250.000 policemen, 2000 soldiers and 35.000 first-aid personnel laid out for the event. Happy footballing (or soccering). And keep it peaceful (even if whatshisname shows up)!
