I'm often prompted for an email address during a sign-up at some web site or another. If I know that I'll never go there again, I tend to use one- shot-e-email addresses such as those provided by Mailinator. You don't have to sign up there. Simply specify your email address as something-or- other@mailinator.com and then visit the Mailinator site to pick up your mail. Don't send anything private to the Mailinator accounts as they are absolutely public. The advantage? They get your spam ;-)
